Fr. Marvin J. Boes Celebrates First Mass Tuesday Morning

Rev. Marvin J. Boes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Boes, offered his first solemn mass in St. Bernard's church at Breda May 29 at 10:30 a.m. Assisting him was his pastor, Rev. J.P. Hausmann of Breda, assistant priests: his cousins, the Very Rev. Msgr. Zeno Reising, and Rev. Norbert, J. Boes, major ministers; other priests originating from St. Bernard's parish, Rev. C.A. Knobbe, and Rev. Dale F. Koster, were minor ministers. The sermon was preached by Rev. LeRoy D. Frank, former assistant pastor at St. Bernard's.

Dinner was served to the clergy, relatives and friends in the school hall following the mass.

A reception was held in the school auditorium from 7 - 9 p.m.

The dinner and reception was served by the ladies of St. Bernard parish.

Fr. Boes was born in Carroll, on August 13, 1931. He attended St. Bernard's grade school and high school. After spending a year at St. Benedict's College, Atchison, Kan., he served two years with the United States Army. He graduated from St. Benedict's in 1957, receiving a B. A. in Economics. He spent the next year at the Creighton University, Omaha. Through summer school sessions at Creighton, he was awarded a Master's Degree in Education in 1961. His seminary studies were pursed at Mount St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. The new priest has three brothers. They are Vernon, Cedar Rapids, Kenneth, Fort Dodge, and Eugene, Dedham.

Rev. Frank Brady served as toastmaster at the program following the dinner which included talks and introductions. Musical selections were rendered by the St. Bernard school students.
