Henry and Anna Nieland Reunion
The Breda News, August 1978
Over 300 people attended the reunion of the descendants
of Henry and Anna Nieland on Sunday, August 13, in Breda.
The day's events started with
a 12:00 Mass at St. Bernard's Church with Rev. J. Charles Yetmar
officiating. Mass servers were Kenneth Nieland and Barry Nieland.
Cross bearer was Dean Steinkamp; Candle bearers were Rich Hannasch
and Jim Hannasch; Lector was Maurice Nieland; Organist was Mrs.
Pat Nieland; Offertory gifts were carried by Janet and John Nieland;
Ushers were Robert Nieland, Louis Wittrock and Arnold Nieland
and Mrs. Bill Reineke and Mrs. Eleanor Vonnahme had charge of
the Guest Book.
The candles on the altar were
from Ramsdorf, Germany, Henry Nieland's home town.
There were descendants present
from the families of each of the eleven children of Henry and
Anna Nieland. There were five generations of descendants represented.
The group then went to the American
legion Hall in Breda.
A program in the afternoon consisted
of: picture slides from Germany; Walt Nieland reading an original
poem entitled ODE
TO THE CLAN; Walt, Andrew and Louis Nieland sang "Grosser
Gott" with Mrs. Pat Nieland at the piano.
Most of the time was spent eating
and visiting. Old pictures were on display, throughout the day
and many Grandmas had their brag books to show.
Those present were from: South
Amboy, New Jersey, Kingfisher, Okla., El Reno, Okla., LaCrosse,
Wisc., Omaha, Neb., Wymore, Neb., and Glendale, Calif., and the
following Iowa towns: Arcadia, Roland, Maquoketa, Algona, Laurens,
Emmetsburg, Mo. Valley, Fonda, Vail, Sac City, Ames, Glenwood,
Dedham, Sioux City, Milford, Scranton, Lohrville, Manning, Dunlap,
Anamosa, Halbur, Marathon, Humbolt, Davenport, Fort Dodge, Granville,
Marcus, Alton, Manson, Wall Lake, Westside, Auburn, Carroll and
Breda.
