Herman Franz Nieland  1885-1958

Passed Away Saturday at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. June 8, 1958

Herman F. Nieland, 72, of Breda died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday June 8 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where he had been admitted May 15. He had been in failing health for 3 years.

Funeral services were at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard Church, Breda with the Rev. J. P. Hausman offering requiem mass.

Pallbearers were Leo Naberhaus, Gerald Schaefer, Julius Schroeder, Albert Frecking, John Wittry and Dale Wittry.

Burial was in St. Bernard cemetery.

Mr. Nieland, who was born Feb. 22, 1885 in Germany, came to the United in early manhood. He farmed in the Mount Carmel vicinity and also lived in Willey several years before moving into his present home southeast of Breda in 1934.

Unmarried, Mr. Nieland is survived by one brother, Joseph Nieland in Obersausen, Osterfield, Rhineland, Germany; one sister, Mrs. Bernardine Finke, Borken, Westphalia, Germany and two step-brothers, Ben Nieland, St. Cloud, MN. and Henry [Joseph] Nieland of Breda.

His parents proceeded him in death. He was a member of St. Bernard Church.
