Joseph B. Schettler 1912-1987

Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, May 18, 1987, at St. Bernard's Church at Breda for Joseph B. Schettler, 75, of Harlingen, TX., formerly of Breda.

He died Thursday, May 14, 1987, at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen after a long illness.

The Rev. Thomas Munn celebrated the Mass, which began at 11 a.m. Burial was at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Breda.

Born April 16, 1912, at Breda, Mr. Schettler was a son of Bernard and Emma (Hoebing) Schettler.

He spent most of his life in the Breda area and attended school in Breda.

On January 27, 1942, he married Annabelle Ocken at St. Francis Church in Maple River. The operated a farm one-quarter mile east of Breda and raised Shetland ponies there.

In 1981 they retired and moved to Harlingen.

Mr. Schettler was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Breda.

He is survived by his wife, Annabelle of Harlingen; four sons, Alan and his wife Shirlee of Fairfax, Larry of Carroll, Neil of Santa Cruz, CA, and Dean and his wife Joan of Breda; three daughters, Mrs. Rich (Leona) Onken of Ralston, NE, Mrs. Dale (Marilyn) Behrens of Carroll, and Mrs. Randy (JoAnn) Wallace of Carroll; 17 grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Eugene of Carroll, Leonard of Carroll, Ray of Breda, Mrs. Herman (Colette) Grote of Breda, Mrs. Ray (Marcella) Gross of Carroll, Sister Karen (Laurine) FSPA of LaCrosse, WI; Sister Lucille, FSPA of Spokane, WA; and Mrs. Fred (Rita) Lorenz of Omaha, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Cecilia, Leona and Georgia; and two brothers, Vincent and Cyril.
