Julius Nieland  1904 - 1998

Julius Nieland of Carroll died Thursday evening April 2, 1998 at the Carroll Health Center. He was 93.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 6 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be the Rev. Laurence Burns. Internment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. The lectors for the Mass will be Brad Nieland and Steve Hanson.

Mr. Nieland was born Dec. 20, 1904 at Armour, S.D., the son of Bernard and Catherine (Thelen) Nieland.

At a very young age his family moved to Luxemburg, Minn., where her received his education. Following school, Nieland moved to Breda. On Oct. 25, 1932, he was married to Emma Huegerich at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. Following their marriage, the couple farmed northwest of Lidderdale. In 1944, the family moved to a farm south of Rockwell City and in 1962 moved to a farm north of Carroll.

The Nielands retired from farming in 1971 and moved to their home in Carroll. While in retirement Mr. Nieland was a salesman for Farmcraft Feeds.

Nieland is survived by Erma Hanson and her husband Dan, of Honey Creek; Donald Nieland and his wife, Kay, of Carroll; Virgil Nieland and his wife, Sharon, of Ralston; Julius Nieland, Jr. and his wife, Lillian, of Carroll; Jim Nieland and his wife, Pam of Carroll, Larry Nieland and his wife Karan, of Tucson, Ariz.; Mary Schroeder and her husband, Dan, of Tucson; 35 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gerhard Nieland of St. Cloud, Minn.; Tony Nieland and his wife, Alma, of St. Cloud; and Joe Nieland of St. Cloud; a sister, Christina Weber of Luxemburg, Minn.
